»Diversity Infusion Project at Chapman University

In October 2014, The Office of the Provost supported the visit of Dr. Mary A. Armstrong from Lafayette College to discuss their diversity infusion project, including the process and successes.

The Diversity Infusion Project then moved to a hands-on process in which participants brought in their syllabi for discussion and suggestions for revision with a goal of making the classroom inclusive to all, based on the exploration of research and scholarship in diversity and teaching in higher education.

In Fall 2015, Vice Chancellor Nina LeNoir again sponsored a return visit of Dr. Armstrong, who met with Deans, Chairs and Directors and Faculty to provide further insight and education in infusing diversity in the curriculum and how to develop strong, ongoing work in this area.

Spring 2016 saw the initiation of 3 working groups led by facilitators who took part in the 2014/15 Project.  The goal is to build on progress made and further develop opportunities for faculty to discuss and develop strategies for infusing diversity into their courses.  Groups met 3-4 times to discuss readings and share strategies and challenges relating to diversity and inclusion

The Diversity Infusion Project will continue in 2015/16. 

The goals of the Diversity Infusion Project in the coming year are to expand faculty participation and increase an awareness and understanding of how infusing diversity and inclusion into all courses, regardless of discipline, can positively affect student learning.
