What is the admission rate at Dodge?
The admission rate at Dodge depends on which program you’re applying to:
- Film & Television Production: 8% for first-years and 10% for transfer students
- All other Dodge programs: 30–40%
What is the average GPA score for admitted students?
The average GPA was 3.92 for first-year students admitted in Fall 2023.
Do I have to take the SAT/ACT to get into Dodge College?
How strict are the length requirements for the essays, video and resume?
Very strict. Going over the length requirements on your application materials can negatively affect your application. In many cases, we simply will not review anything that goes over the allotted length.
Can I submit additional portfolio pieces to showcase my work?
What is the Creative Supplement?
The Creative Supplement is part of your application. It is a short creative assignment that will let you showcase your skills for the program that you are applying to.

All of them. Each Dodge College major requires you to submit a Creative Supplement in addition to your Common Application.
The Creative Supplement differs depending on which program you’re applying to. To see what you have to submit for your Creative Supplement, check the How to Apply to Dodge College page.How many letters of recommendation do I need?
One letter of recommendation is required, though we encourage all applicants to submit two letters of recommendation:
- The “Teacher Evaluation," which should speak to your academic abilities, is required.
- We also strongly recommend you submit a second letter from someone who can speak to
your creative abilities.
Both of these letters can be submitted through the Common Application.

Can I be admitted to another major at Chapman University if I am not admitted directly to Dodge?
Yes. When you submit your Common Application, you can indicate a first choice and second choice for your major. Your second choice can be a major within Dodge College, a major in a different school/college at Chapman or Undeclared.
If you are not admitted to your first-choice major, you may be considered for your second choice.
Can I switch majors to my first choice after being admitted with my second choice?
If I am admitted to another college at Chapman, can I change my major to one at Dodge College?
Once you have been admitted to Chapman, you will need to apply to change your major
to a Dodge College program. To learn more, please visit our Change or Add Majors or Minors page.
What if I don’t have any experience in the major that I’m applying to?
You can still apply. We don’t specifically require you to have any experience related to the major you apply to.
It’s okay if you have just made movies on your own or planned an event for your school club. We hope your application will demonstrate your understanding of key concepts related to the program and tell us about your creative abilities and endeavors — whatever they may be.
How do I submit my Creative Supplement
You can submit your Creative Supplement through your Application Status Page after you have submitted your Common Application.

Can I set up an interview with the Dodge College Admission Committee?
Given the high volume of applications, the Dodge College Admission Committee does
not conduct personal interviews.
However, you can meet current Dodge College students through one of our visit opportunities.
If I am not admitted to Dodge College, can I apply again?
What are you looking for specifically in the written sample and visual sample for Film Production?
As long as you follow the prompts on the How to Apply to Dodge College page, you can submit whatever you like.
- For the written sample, we want to see your storytelling ability and strength in writing.
- For the visual sample, we want to see your visual storytelling ability and how well you can tell a compelling and interesting story with visuals alone.
You should use both requirements to show us who you are as a storyteller and what you will bring to Dodge.
Do I need the rights to the music I use in my visual sample?
What do you look for in Dodge applicants?
We like to see applicants who:
- Demonstrate creative and unique storytelling ability
- Have kept on creating in their field even after graduating high school
- Maintain good academic standing
- Submit applications on time

What classes should I take before transferring to Dodge College?
You should take:
- General education classes
