Anna Waterhouse was given her first big break when TriStar bought her screenplay and she was snapped up to work on a team of writers for the feature, Power Play. Shortly after, Robert Towne read one of her scripts and hired her to work as a consultant. “I like fixing broken scripts,” Waterhouse says, and so she continued to assist Towne, producer James Hart, and many others sort through and mend their scripts’ structural problems. Her writing can be seen in such films as Without Limits, The Secret Garden, and Mission: Impossible II. She recently finished work on the documentary, On the Shoulders of Giants.

“There’s a lot of satisfaction in helping others create (and avoid pitfalls along the way). My students’ enthusiasm brings out the mom in me – though I’m more the ‘tough love’ kind!” she jokes. “What everyone says is true: if you don’t love it, if you aren’t willing to sacrifice, if you don’t think you have anything to learn, or if you’re easily discouraged, hurt, or offended, please get into another line of work!”
