Biography
Christine Fugate is an award-winning film producer and director whose work has appeared around the world. She explores the complexities of women’s lives in films such as The Southern Sex and Mother Love. Her film Tobacco Blues was screened on board Air Force One for President Bill Clinton. Fugate's’s feature-length documentary The Girl Next Door had a theatrical run that placed her on ShowBIZ Data’s list of the Top 100 Directors. She was invited to participate in the Sundance Producers Conference with the film Grief Becomes Me: A Love Story.
Fugate's Moorea and Her Magic Kingdom, a documentary following the lives of three remarkable young adults with genetic syndromes, was released in 2019. She also has produced and directed projects for VH1, the Discovery Channel, A&E, Bravo, and New Line Cinema. She has interviewed celebrities including Tom Hanks, Julie Andrews and Johnny Depp. Over the past several years, she has specialized in unscripted filming overseas, including in Malawi, Great Britain, and Australia with the Sikh Lens project, a collection of films about Sikhs in the diaspora, and in Fiji, New Zealand, and Indonesia for the Travel Channel. Her directing career started at Five Star Productions in Thailand.
Fugate has written the syndicated column “Mothering Heights” and its related book, and also enjoys writing short stories for literary journals and magazines. She has a bachelor’s degree in history from Tulane University and a master’s degree in Asian film and theater from the University of Hawai’i.
