
Kc Wayland
Biography
Kc Wayland is an award-winning writer, producer, sound designer, director, and United States Army veteran whose film and audio work has been enjoyed worldwide.
In media production, Wayland has created several award-winning feature documentaries, including Eastern State: Living Behind the Walls and 365 Boots on Ground. He frequently collaborates with commercial brand partners such as Anheuser-Busch, Mars Inc., and Edwards Lifesciences, crafting innovative sound designs for video productions and physical spaces.
In the realm of audio fiction, Wayland has worked with major production partners such as Hallmark, Disney, Fox Studios, iHeartRadio, Audible, and various independent publishers, producing hundreds of hours of immersive sound-designed content. His original series We're Alive has garnered hundreds of millions of downloads and a large, dedicated fan base, and is currently in its ninth season. Wayland has also authored Bombs Always Beep, a comprehensive manual on producing what he has trademarked as “Theater for the Mind,” and his advanced techniques in audio post-production and spatial Dolby ATMOS are utilized by studios around the globe.
Many of his productions have earned festival awards for best sound design, direction, editing, and writing. They have been featured as “Best of iTunes” and “Best of Audible,” and have received nominations from the NAACP Image Awards, BBC’s “Best Audio Drama,” an Audie Award, and even a Bronze Star for his service in the Army.
He has lectured and taught at various educational institutions, including USC, The Los Angeles Film School, Costa Mesa ROP, and Orange County High School of the Arts. At Dodge College, he teaches the courses Writing for Audio, Audio Techniques, Sound Design, and Audio Drama Production.
Wayland graduated as a Distinguished Honor Graduate and Top Graduate from the Defense Information School in 2002, earning two broadcast engineering certifications, and received his BFA in writing and directing from Chapman University where he was the recipient of the 2009 Cheverton Award.
