Biography
Dr. Lynn Tierney is a Clinical Associate professor in the Physical Therapy Department. She completed her MPT degree from USC in 1987 and her Doctorate from Western University in 2006. She joined Chapman University in 1997 with extensive clinical experience from Rancho los Amigos National Medical Center in Downey, CA. While at RLANRC she worked with patients with spinal cord injury and stroke, and served as a gait instructor, lecturing both nationally and internationally on observational gait analysis. Dr. Tierney also brings clinical experience from the acute care and home health settings. She holds a specialty certification in Geriatrics (GCS) from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and recently obtained a specialty certification, CEEAA, Certified Exercise Expert for Aging Adults from the Academy of Geriatrics of the APTA. Most recently, she was certified in LSVT BIG, which is a treatment intervention geared towards individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Her primary teaching responsibilities are in the areas of rehabilitation of stroke and spinal cord injury, acute care and geriatrics. She also has an interest in developing inter-professional education curricula with the other professional programs at the newly opened Rinker Campus in Irvine, CA. She has ben involved in the California Physical Therapy Association, serving as treasurer and currently serving a two-year term as an Assembly Representative. Dr. Tierney’s research interests focus on balance assessment, gait and strength testing of older adults.
