Biography
Robert Guyker is lecturer of sociology at Chapman University. His teaching areas include
topics in anthropology, art, mythology, and folklore. He serves as editor for the
online peer-review journal, Cultural Analysis : An interdisciplinary forum on folklore
& popular culture in collaboration with the Société Internationale d’Ethnologie et
de Folklore (https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~culturalanalysis/) and is co-editor of
Retrospective Methods Network Newsletter (University of Helsinki). Dr. Guyker’s research
has focused on uses of folkloristic modes, narratives, and motifs in digital games,
player communities, and popular culture. His dissertation research was supported by
a research fellowship at the Strong Museum of Play and International Center for the
History of Electronic Games (Rochester, NY).
