Biography
Whitney McIntyre Miller is an Associate Professor of Leadership Programs in the Attallah College of Educational Studies. She is appointed to the faculty of the Ph.D. in Education program and also contributes to the Leadership programs at the undergraduate and master's levels. She received her Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from the University of San Diego and holds master's degrees in International Development and Social Work, as well as a bachelor's degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. McIntyre Miller centers her research around peace leadership and issues of community development and leadership, with a particular focus on postconflict societies, publishing peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on these topics. She teaches courses on Leading from Within, Leading Transformational Change, Qualitative Methods, and Grounded Theory in the Ph.D. in Education (Leadership Studies emphasis) program. She has also served as the Faculty Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Leadership Development (MLD) and teaches master’s courses on Peace and Sustainability Leadership, Leading for Emerging Social Issues, Leadership in Popular Culture, and the MLD capstone series. Dr. McIntyre Miller has researched and worked in Sierra Leone and Bosnia-Herzegovina and has also lived in Russia. She has traveled to more than 60 countries for work, study, and leisure.
Dr. McIntyre Miller has also worked in the areas of international development, refugee
return and resettlement, nonviolence, elections monitoring, and community development. She
takes an active role in international education and global study and has led multiple
study abroad programs, coordinated a doctoral level Chapman and Shanghai Normal University
partnership, and is an active alumna with the Institute of Shipboard Education’s Semester
at Sea program. Dr. McIntyre Miller is a member of the International Leadership Association
(and has served as a co-convener of its Peace Leadership Affinity Group), the Community
Development Society (and has served as a Board Member), and the Los Alamitos Unified
School District’s Human Relations Advisory Council.
