Career Readiness Competencies in the Classroom
Consider incorporating the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies into your curriculum or lessons. These eight core competencies are highly desired skills that employers are looking for in their future employees (across all industries). Helping students develop these skills is a great way to prepare them for success in the future workforce.
NACE’s Career Readiness Competencies:
- Career & Self-Development
- Communication
- Critical Thinking
- Equity & Inclusion
- Leadership
- Professionalism
- Teamwork
- Technology
Please reach out to our Career Education team if you have any questions about how these competencies can be demonstrated in the classroom.
Career Coaching and Job Search Tools
One of the most impactful experiences a student will have at Chapman is receiving guidance from a faculty member. In addition to benefiting from your advice, students also have access to career coaching, networking opportunities and an exclusive Chapman job board, Handshake. Encourage your students to log into Handshake and meet with a Career Advisor to maximize their job search efforts.
If you would like assistance setting up a Handshake account, please reach out to our Data & Systems Manager.
Customized Career-Related Assignments and Activities

Provide Personalized Support to Employers
Many faculty members join Chapman with well-established professional networks. If this describes you, please do the following:
Encourage your network to Think Chapman First by:
- Scheduling a strategic planning meeting with the Employer Engagement team by contacting thinkchapmanfirst@chapman.edu.
- Recruiting Panther talent (students and alumni) when hiring at all levels including interns, entry- and mid-level positions to key leadership roles. Visit the Recruiting Chapman Talent for more information.
- Engaging on campus via career fairs and networking nights, speaker events, interviews and more.
Know your Employer Engagement team is here to support you. We can assist with:
- Personalized assistance with cross posting roles to the primary career platform, Handshake and Chapman’s exclusive community platform, The Panther Network.
- Referrals to campus partners and career advisors within other schools and colleges.
- Employer Engagement presence in a meeting or site visit.
- Collateral, tokens of appreciation and information material to share with employers.
