Your Undergraduate Advisor is Patsy Sewell. Patsy is your main point of contact when you would like help with:

• Planning your class schedule.
• Understanding General Education credits and requirements.
• Exploring majors and minors.
• Learning about the facilities available to you as a Schmid student.
• Reviewing your Program Evaluation to stay on track for graduation.
• Understanding Chapman's academic policies.
• Understanding transfer credit policies for students planning on taking coursework at another institution.
• Finding out more about our integrated undergraduate programs.
• Anything else related to general academics or student life as a Chapman undergrad.

Faculty Advisors

Faculty Advisors are Schmid College faculty members. If you are a current Schmid student, you may even know some of them already.

Faculty advisors are who you should contact when you need assistance with:

• Understanding your major requirements and the classes you should be taking.
• Getting involved in academic research and scientific conferences.
• Learning about internship opportunities in your field.
• Applying to graduate or professional school.

Guidance on graduate and professional school

Here are a few resources about continuing your education in graduate or professional school.

Chapman’s integrated graduate programs let you earn a master’s degree in just one additional year on top of your bachelor’s. We offer integrated MS degrees in:

Pre-Health Professions Office

Our Pre-Health Professions Office can help you become a competitive applicant to professional health schools. You can begin taking advantage of these resources as soon as you are admitted to Chapman.

Available to all Chapman undergraduates, the Pre-Health Professions Office gives you access to:

• A dedicated Pre-Health Advisor who can meet with you to discuss your goals.
• Chances to explore healthcare careers.
• Advising on coursework recommended for professional schools.
• Guidance on the most sought-after healthcare pathways, including: medical, dental, pharmacy, optometry, podiatry, veterinary, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing.
• Extracurricular opportunities related to your goals.
• Workshops, one-on-one appointments, and other application-related support.

Peer Advising

Peer advising is academic guidance by Schmid students for Schmid students.

Peer advisors are a great resource if you want info about the student experience from current Chapman students. Peer advisors can talk with you about:

• The student experience as a Schmid student.
• Your major.
• Preparation for registration.
• Navigating the science classes you plan on taking.
• Developing a four-year academic plan.
• Academic pathways you might want to pursue, like second majors, minors or advanced degrees.
• What the instructors are like, and their teaching styles.
• Where you can go for resources and support on campus.

Academic Advising Night

We hold Academic Advising Nights once per semester. These in-person group advising sessions are hosted by Schmid faculty who can answer questions about:

• Registration.
• Classes required for your major.
• Planning your class schedule.
• Four-year plans that will help you stay on track to graduate on time.
• And more.

If you are a currently enrolled Schmid student, you will receive an email invite to Academic Advising Nights.

A note for parents — partners in your students’ success

All Schmid advisors can work with your student to help create the best possible academic experience based on their interests and goals. 

We hope you will also support your student’s success by helping ensure they graduate on time and get the most out of their college experience. However, please keep in mind:

• It is important that students learn and feel comfortable to self-advocate. If they have questions or concerns, please encourage them to reach out themselves for assistance. 
• Additionally, when students enter college, their academic information is protected under The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This prevents staff and faculty from discussing anything specific about your student unless they are present and give us explicit permission to do so.
