Testing Accommodations & Exam/Quiz Proctoring Policy

  • In order to schedule and take accommodated exams and quizzes at the Testing Center, students must:
    1. Be registered with Disability Services (DS) and have testing accommodations approved by the DS Specialist or Director.
    2. Complete a Semester Request and send their Accommodation Letter to instructors.
  • Requests to reschedule an exam booking can be made if the student has an approved accommodation by DS or documented approval from their instructor.
  • Students are expected to arrive to the Testing Center on time and begin their exam or quiz as scheduled. If the student arrives to the Testing Center early but delays themselves from starting at the scheduled start time, the elapsed time will automatically be deducted from the student’s total time allowed.  In these cases, the scheduled end time will remain the same and will not be adjusted or extended.
  • Students who arrive late may or may not be allowed to start their exam or quiz, per professor’s instructions to the Testing Center staff.

Student Responsibilities & Procedures

  • Students must schedule all desired exams and quizzes via Accommodate at least 7 calendar days in advance during Fall and Spring semesters and at least 2 calendar days in advance during Interterm and Summer sessions. Apart from pop quizzes, instructors are not responsible for scheduling exams or quizzes for students.
  • Students are expected to take exams and quizzes on the same day and time as the rest of the class.  Requests to schedule for an alternate day and/or time will only be permitted based upon an approved accommodation by DS or agreement between the student and instructor.
  • Students who need to reschedule an exam booking must notify the Testing Center at least 48 hours in advance of their proposed reschedule time and provide verification that the instructor has approved the exam reschedule.
  • If an exam or quiz is not scheduled by the specified deadlines, students may have the following options to receive testing accommodations:
    1. The student may take the exam or quiz on an alternate day/time at the Testing Center, per Testing Center availability, with documented approval from the instructor; or
    2. The instructor and student can make alternate arrangements outside of the Testing Center for the student to take their exam or quiz with accommodations, proctored by the instructor or another proctor appointed by the instructor.
**If neither of these options can be arranged, the student will need to take their exam or quiz with the rest of the class without accommodations.
  • To schedule a final exam for Final Exams Week, students must schedule exam bookings on Accommodate by the Friday of Week 11 (1 month in advance) for Fall and Spring Semesters and at least 2 calendar days in advance for Interterm and Summer Sessions.
  • If a final exam is not scheduled by the specified deadline, students have the following options to receive testing accommodations:
    1. The student may take their final exam at the Testing Center the week before Final Exams Week with documented approval from the instructor; or
    2. The instructor and student can make alternate arrangements outside of the Testing Center for the student to take their final exam with accommodations, proctored by the instructor or another proctor appointed by the instructor.
**If neither of these options can be arranged, the student will need to take their final exam with the rest of the class, on the day and time specified in the University Final Exam Week Schedule or course syllabus, without accommodations. Final exam dates/times vary by semester and can be found at chapman.edu/finals.

Testing Center Procedures

  • Exam booking reschedules will only be made if the student has provided the Testing Center at least 48 hours advance notice of their proposed reschedule time and provided verification that the instructor has approved the exam reschedule.
  • Testing Center staff will send out two emails to all students reminding them to book their exams for Final Exams Week. The first email will be sent one month in advance of the booking deadline. The second email will be sent one week in advance of the booking deadline.
  • In an effort to protect the integrity, confidentiality, and security of each exam and quiz, the Testing Center abides by the following proctoring procedures:
    1. A proctor monitors all exams and quizzes administered at the Testing Center at all times, unless otherwise authorized by the instructor.
    2. The Testing Center is under video surveillance for safety and academic integrity purposes.
    3. Extended time is calculated by the Testing Center according to the full class period unless otherwise confirmed by the instructor.
    4. Students are expected to arrive at the Testing Center with the authorized tools and materials the instructor has deemed necessary to complete the exam (e.g., green books, scantrons, calculators, etc.).
    5. Aside from test materials and writing implements, only items identified as an accommodation or items authorized by the instructor are allowed in the testing rooms.
    6. All cell phones, smart watches, and other electronics are strictly prohibited at all times in designated testing areas, unless specified by the instructor and communicated to the Testing Center.
    7. Students must store all personal belongings in locations designated by the Testing Center. Testing Center staff are not responsible for lost or stolen belongings or technology stored in designated areas while students are taking exams or quizzes.
    8. Changes or additions to any authorized tools or materials (e.g. calculator, notes, open book, etc.) to be utilized on an exam or quiz will not be allowed unless notification from the instructor has been received by Testing Center staff.
    9. Delays in beginning an exam or quiz due to Testing Center operations or late exam delivery from an instructor will not reduce the student’s allotted time.
    10. Testing Center staff only transcribe testing materials and content based upon the student’s approved accommodations; they do not clarify, interpret, or modify questions or responses for students.
    11. Students who have questions or concerns about their exam or quiz must communicate them to the Testing Center staff right away to allow for timely resolution.
    12. If a student has a question for the instructor during the exam, Testing Center staff will either escort the student to their classroom to ask their instructor questions or contact the instructor on their behalf via email or phone.
    13. All designated testing areas are equipped with clocks for students to monitor their testing time independently. When possible, Testing Center staff and proctors may provide 5-15 minute end time reminders.
* The Testing Center does not proctor outside exams such as LSAT, GRE, MCAT, etc

Academic Integrity and Student Conduct

Students are expected to uphold all university-wide academic integrity and conduct policies. If a student is caught or suspected of any form of academic dishonesty, the Testing Center staff reserves the right to enter the designated testing area to confiscate any unauthorized materials. The student may be allowed to continue their exam if deemed appropriate by Testing Center staff and/or the instructor.

Any incidents of academic dishonesty or student misconduct will be reported in the form of a Test Irregularity Report to the student’s instructor, DS Director and the Academic Integrity Committee and may result in disciplinary actions or sanctions as described in the Academic Integrity Policy and Student Conduct Code.

Placement Tests

Placement tests are no longer administered by the Testing Center. For information on those please visit the Academic Advising Center website or contact their office at 714-744-7959.

The following are web sites for some of the national tests required for admission to college and to graduate school, as well as for teaching credentials.  The best study materials are always those found on the official web site for the tests.  Focus on strategies and on practice test questions.  Additional sources for books, web-based practice tests and courses can be found at local bookstores and on the web.  Look for reputable names in publishing.
